With a cooking system based on the traditional ‘Braai’
Unless you’re in South Africa, you could forgive the average Aussie for thinking a barbeque and a braai are one and the same – or at least very similar. It’s difficult to adequately explain what a braai is to someone who hasn’t been lucky enough to share in the experience.
“Well, it’s like a barbeque……only better.”
“What could be better than a barbeque?”
‘Braai’ is Afrikaans for ‘barbeque’ or ‘roast’ and, similar to what the BBQ is to Australians, as well as being a delicious meal, is it’s an important social custom in South Africa that lasts long after the meat has been cooked and devoured. By all accounts, South Africans take their braais and BBQing perhaps even more seriously than Australians do. And as any true-blue Aussie would know, we take our barbequing pretty seriously! But while the main principles of barbeques and braais are generally the same, there are fundamental differences of the celebrated braai that make the mouth water and the heart sing with joy!
Then there’s the versatility of the Umllo. You can use it to cook almost anything! Conventional grilling, baking bread, stir-fry’s, traditional potjie kos, smoked meat or fish, a spit-roast, or even your morning cuppa!
